About this guidance
When a judgment or decision is uploaded to the Find Case Law service via TDR, it is passed through our parser which converts the document from a docx format into a web page.
During this process, certain elements that are present in the docx version of the judgment/decision may not appear in the web version because the parser is unable to translate them into a web-friendly format.
This is why we have created this site, to offer advice on how to style and format judgments and decisions for the web so that they better mirror their source documents. We want to ensure that the judgments and decisions on our site are presented as clearly and consistently as possible for readers.
The guidance on this site is separated by sections within a judgment/decision and then further broken down by elements that frequently appear in these sections. We also offer general advice on how to style a document to make it web-friendly, as well as how to make judgments/decisions accessible to readers.
Making changes to a document
Should you need to amend the judgment or decision you have uploaded in any way, please upload the updated document again via TDR. This will overwrite the current version on Find Case Law.
If you experience any issues uploading documents via TDR, please get in touch with the TDR team (tdr@nationalarchives.gov.uk) and they should be able to assist.
If you are unable to upload a judgment or decision via TDR and it is a matter of urgency, please get in touch with the Judgments Helpdesk team (JudgmentsHelpdesk@judiciary.uk) who should be able to upload the document on your behalf.
Please note that, due to the volume of updates we receive, we cannot send email confirmation for amendments to already published judgments/decisions unless specifically requested.
